Westlake Village, California – Local estate planning attorney and elder care advocate, Terri Hilliard, has been chosen to serve as District 6 Governor for California Women Lawyers, representing a region that spans five counties.

Hilliard, owner of the law firm Terri Hilliard PC in Westlake Village, will represent the interests of California Women Lawyers members in Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Riverside and San Bernardino counties, and contribute to the organization’s overall work of advancing women in the profession of law. Her two-year term will begin September 10, 2021.

“I’m thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to serve other female attorneys in my home region and to be a part of such an esteemed organization,” said Hilliard. “Women have made enormous strides within the legal profession since I began my career three decades ago, but there is still much work to be done to ensure women lawyers obtain the support, respect, and resources they need to fully realize their talents.”

California Women Lawyers is the only statewide bar association for women in California. Since its founding in 1974, the organization has represented the interests of more than 70,000 women in all facets of the legal profession, influencing lawyers, educators, students, and judges, and supporting both the individual and collective goals of women in law. Each year, California Women Lawyers provides resources and support to its members, and engages with the courts, legislatures, and media to advocate for women in the legal profession and society as a whole.

Hilliard’s practice centers on advanced estate and business succession planning, asset preservation, special needs trusts, and family protection planning for seniors. Terri is a Certified Exit Planning Advisor, assisting families with closely-held businesses navigate the complexities of a future sale or exit while preserving the family legacy. She is also a private mediator focused on helping families, elders, individuals and businesses resolve disputes, and a certified Alzheimer’s disease and dementia care practitioner. Her law offices are located in the Tri-Counties including Westlake Village, Santa Barbara and Burbank.

In addition to her law practice and involvement with California Women Lawyers, Hilliard volunteers regularly to help seniors prevent abuse and fraud, including through the Conejo Valley Estate Planning Council, the Wealth Counsel and Elder Counsel, and Senior Concerns of the Conejo. She spearheaded creation of the Pro Bono Panel of Attorneys program called “Legal Concerns” at Senior Concerns, and helped found the Alzheimer’s Women’s Initiative, Ventura County chapter. She also launched a non-profit called Conejo Valley Village, a virtual village where seniors and others can barter and share skills like cooking or driving. Terri is an advisory board member of the Institute for Family Business at Fresno State’s Craig School of Business, a comprehensive resource center for education, family business knowledge, and community involvement serving the needs of family-owned and closely-held partnerships in California’s Central Valley.

Hilliard earned her law degree from Loyola Law School in 1989, and is an admitted member of all California State and Federal Courts, the California State Bar, Southern California Mediation Association, Eldercare Mediators, and the Ventura County Bar Association, Estates section and Wealth Counsel. She was twice named “Attorney of the Year” by the San Fernando Valley Business Journal, and made the Pacific Coast Business Times’ “Who’s Who” list as leading attorney in the Tri-Counties in 2019. Most recently, the Los Angeles Business Journal named Hilliard a “Woman of Influence.”
