It can, and here’s why that’s still a problem.

I still hear a lot of chit-chat about AI writing books “in minutes.” I think some different LLMs could spit out a manuscript while you binge-watch some Netflix, but I’m going to say the quiet part out loud:

First, we can all spot AI-generated content. They may not admit it, but they can. Why? Because there’s no “you” in it. You know I’m writing this because it’s got my sass, turns of phrase, and (ahem) the occasional typo. (You’re welcome.) Your content contains your voice, which is a mix of your sense of humor, plus stories and examples, and all the things that make you you. Plus, the stuff that only you can not only know, but also write.

Second, if the above didn’t snap you to attention, the U.S. courts have now weighed in: AI-generated content without meaningful human authorship isn’t protected by copyright. That book you published? Not only does it not belong to you, anyone can legally use it.

Your book, written in your voice (yes, a ghostwriter can make you sound even more like you than you can–it’s magic!) will contain what AI can’t generate no matter how smart it gets: your hard-won wisdom. Or stories of how you saved that client from a huge tax bill. Or helped that business owner get more from the sale of their business.

You’ve got experience, knowledge, education, years, and miles. AI knows nothing of all of that.

You don’t want to damage your reputation with a book that’s ugly on the inside or the outside. While everyone is publishing their books (and wondering why “it’s not working”), your book can work wonders in your business.

Consider this, while we’re at it: doesn’t your audience deserve to know what makes you different than anyone else they could hire in your area of expertise? Don’t you deserve to have a book you’re proud to gift to prospective clients, strategic partners, those in your network?

Yes, yes, you do! You’ll love having a book that shines right alongside you.

If you’re so inclined, let’s talk about curating a book that closes the deal (instead of collecting dust).
